Ask Finance Command now looks up your real numbers

Ask Finance Command used to answer from a general snapshot of your finances. That worked for broad questions and missed specific ones. It can now look up the exact data a question needs.

What changed

When you ask a question about your data, Finance Command first decides which lookups would answer it. It can use these six:

  • Envelope status for the current pay period
  • Spending over a date range, optionally for one category
  • Bills, whether due this pay period, paid this pay period, or all active
  • Debts and cards, including utilization
  • Paychecks, the most recent ones
  • Net worth history over a chosen number of days

It runs only the lookups the question needs, up to three per question, and then answers from the results.

You can see what it used

When an answer uses your data, it shows small "Looked up" labels for the data behind it, so you can tell whether a response came from your numbers or from general knowledge.

What stays the same

  • The AI is told not to do the math. Totals come from the same calculations the rest of the app uses.
  • It is read-only. A question can never change your data.
  • Your account only. Lookups are scoped to the signed-in account.
  • Decision questions still get a verdict. Asking "Should I buy a $400 TV?" still returns Approve, Adjust, or Avoid, and the evaluation is saved to your Decision Log.

Good questions to try

  • "What did I spend on groceries last month?"
  • "Which bills are still unpaid this pay period?"
  • "How much of my credit limit am I using?"
  • "What were my last three paychecks?"

Known limits

If a lookup cannot complete, the chat falls back to the older snapshot answer, which can miss the specifics. If an answer seems off-topic, wait a few seconds and ask again. It cannot estimate a payoff date yet; that needs a shared payoff calculation first.
